Participative Leadership Style
what it is about participative leadership style- in the past all leadership decisions came from the top only, and only those at the top were able to share what they thought. The problem with this is the limited number and diversity of ideas coming in.
Participative leadership gives some of the decision powers to more of the employees. This can be done in many ways.
- A leader can have a meeting and open it up to the thoughts of the group.
- A leader can relinquish much of the decision power, to the employee working on the project. This is the person who knows this best anyway.
- A leader should be open to ideas from anyone at any level.
These are just some examples of thinking with the participative style of leadership. There are many more, be creative on how you leverage your team. Make sure not to give away to much decision power to someone who is not ready. Also make sure they know that if they need help to ask for it.
What is good - there are many benefits to participative style of leadership, one word to sum these benefits up is leverage. Leverage the people in your team to their maximum. Some leaders have members of their team with great insight that is never looked at. This style when used well maximizes your team.
Take away for our own leadership- maximize your team. The days when one man or even a small group at the top could make all the decisions for a business is over. If we want our businesses or whatever groups we are leading to not just survive, but flourish in today’s world and tomorrows world we need to leverage our team members.
