Leadership versus management, or Leadership and management



What it is- When asking leadership versus management, what we are going to cover is management as a leader what it is good and bad. Many times when talking about leadership termers manager and management can be looked at with a negative connotation. There are also different definitions.
For the purpose of this page we will define management as:

the act or manner of managing; handling, direction, or control.

Leadership is about influence and building people.

What is good - Management skills give the structure and order needed in leadership.

When you think of it that way, management is really a part of good leadership. What you don’t want though is to have the mechanics of management without the people connection of leadership then you are missing out.

Management skills will create order and forward movement.

Take away for our own leadership- A leader needs to be able to relate and drive their followers forward. Effective leaders also the managing skills remember to manage tasks, and to lead people.

Another take home lesson is don’t think in either ors, take the best from everything when you are building yourself, building your team or any other scenario when making comparisons.
